The image of Rila Monastery architecture is presented through the art combination of different forms and proportions of two architecture elements - the arch and the tige. The Rila Monastery was founded from Ivan Rilski in 927-941 on the place of the Old Anchoress. At the yard of the monastery in 1335 was built the Tower of Hrelyu and a small church, the creator was the local feudal Lord Hrelin. The Monastery was a literaly and enlightment centre. The monastery was generously gifted by the bulgarian rulers with land properties. Through the Ottoman rule was robbed and destroyed by fire but still remained centre of the culture and national spirit. In 1795 was built the church „Vavedenie Bogorodichno“, during 1799 was built the church „St. Luka“, during 1805 – the church „ Holy Protection of the Theotokos“. After the fire in 1833 was lift up the church „St. Bogorodica“ still existing today and constructed by Pavel Yovanovich. It lies east of the yard and through open arcade connects with the wings architecturally. It was drawn by a famous masters like Toma Vishanov, Dimitar and Zahari Zograff. In conjunction with the religious painting there are everyday and historical stages. Rila Monastery possesses some old precious icons, valuable manuscripts, early printed church books, documents, charters and etc. In 1961 Rila Monastery was announced as a Cultural National Historical Monument. The Rila Monastery is located in Rila Mauntain and in 1,147 above the sea level. No doubt it is the biggest tourist attraction for its size, natural surroundings , architecture, wal l- paintings and ancient history. Through the Revival was a supreme achievement of the Bulgarian monumental architecture. The monastery takes about 8800 square meters. The monastery is mentioned in the Vitosha's gold honorary diploma of the Bulgarian king Ivan Shishman which tells about its relation to the Second Bulgarian Kingdom.
